All of that changed in 2000. The NASDAQ, bolstered by the internet and technology sectors, reached a peak of 5,000 in March. In the sell-off that followed, "Buy-and-Hold" investors were hurt as their mutual funds declined in value with the fall of the NASDAQ, followed by the other exchanges.
